Twenty-something roomies Dania and Mayra are doing the best they can.

Dania works at a rundown restaurant where the TV blasts—the news is reporting increased security along the southern US border, the same border her mother crossed in the 1980s. It’s incessant—the news, the bills, life. Dania can barely keep it together, let alone pursue her passions, or the total babe that’s pursuing her.

Mayra grapples with a secretly poly boy who occupies too much of her brainspace while she puts herself through programming school. Getting your foot in the door as a woman of color in tech has some barriers, but Mayra is no stranger to hustling.

A story of friendship and family, chosen or otherwise, our duo navigate the messiness and uncertainty of quarter-life. Drawn with detailed inks and syrupy pink, Julia Mata expertly sets the vibe in her first graphic novel—on the dance floor and through the streets of New York.
