In the first graphic novel collection from StoryCorps, readers are given a glimpse of the beauty, power, and scope of the American experience as lived and told by everyday people. Selected from hundreds of thousands of interviews recorded in every corner of the country, these fourteen stories introduce you to a woman born into slavery who becomes a pioneering midwife in Black Mountain, North Carolina; an act of kindness during the Great Depression remembered, and repaid, decades later; a father on his deathbed who finally reveals his experiences in a concentration camp during the Holocaust; a family’s journey from cleaning offices to graduating college; an airline employee who unknowingly let terrorists onto a plane on September 11; and so much more.

With striking art by Sharon De La Cruz and an introduction by renowned young adult author Jason Reynolds, who once worked for StoryCorps himself, this collection illuminates the humanity and possibility in us all.

Standard and Primary covers are widely available through general retailers. They often have higher print runs and can be cheaper, especially during sales.

In contrast, Direct Market (DM) and variant covers are primarily sold in comic shops. DM editions tend to have more limited availability and may be more valuable to collectors.

The main differences lie in artwork style, availability, price, and collector appeal. Ultimately, the choice between standard and variant covers depends on personal preference, budget, and individual collecting goals.
