ABOUT
Jim Woodring has been one of America’s most visually distinctive artists, translating his subconscious into compellingly surreal imagery. He has proven himself a master of many forms and media: Painting, drawing, ink wash, writing, sculpting, toy design, comics, mail art, animation, stereoscopic printing, autojournals… even gallery work drawn freehand with a bespoke five-foot-long dip pen. Woodring’s dream-like visions and masterful skill translate to medium after medium, and in this oversized 12-month calendar, he brings his otherworldly images from his hand and brain to your kitchen and office wall. Each is rich and strange enough to reward a month’s repeated viewing, and perhaps revealing enough of your own subconscious that each page turn on the first of the month will be a weight lifted, making room for new discoveries both visual and interpretive. Printed using high quality inks on matte stock, this beautiful calendar is an eye-popping delight. Each image was hand selected by Woodring himself, a number of them chosen from commissioned private art collections. Additional illustrations appear on each calendar page and Woodring has also curated weird, amusing, important, artistic, and occult dates from history to highlight throughout. It’s likely to be a twisted year for everyone: this can only help guide your path through it.
STANDARD, PRIMARY, DM AND VARIANT COVERS
Standard and Primary covers are widely available through general retailers. They often have higher print runs and can be cheaper, especially during sales.
In contrast, Direct Market (DM) and variant covers are primarily sold in comic shops. DM editions tend to have more limited availability and may be more valuable to collectors.
The main differences lie in artwork style, availability, price, and collector appeal. Ultimately, the choice between standard and variant covers depends on personal preference, budget, and individual collecting goals.
