Paislee Shaw hosts the weekly knit-and-sip at her yarn shop in a Scottish seaside town and sports the Shaw tartan to celebrate Burns Night. But as much as she takes pride in her heritage, she’s about to learn that haggis can be quite deadly . . .

In addition to her family, her dog, and her fiancé, DI Mack Zeffer, Paislee enjoys a close circle of crafty friends. They’ve persuaded her to join the Nairnshire Book Club, and for her first meeting, she reads some long-lost poetry written by Robert Burns—or, as many suspect, a hoax “written” by AI.

Burns is a national treasure of course, and bookstore owners Evie and Arlo—local literary celebrities who seem oddly at odds with each other—are holding a contest in honor of Burns Night, a Scottish tradition. Most of the competitors are humble about their chances, but not David the librarian, whose casual insults are fraying the group’s patience. And Paislee’s shy friend is dreading it—since she’s entered anonymously and is desperate to find someone else to perform her poem in public.

After Arlo’s glamorous ice-queen agent arrives to judge the contest, things get wild and woolly. Accusations are made, secrets are revealed, food flies, and David drops dead after a taste of haggis. It seems like a murder with no rhyme or reason—until Paislee starts to unravel the many possible motives . . .
