A shy Japanese girl and an American boy who only speaks English struggle to bridge their differences in communication and open up to one another!

Mutsumi, a high school girl who's retreated to a non-verbal state, is still unable to communicate with her new desk neighbor James, who can't parse Japanese yet anyway. But it seems like their hearts may be growing closer in spite of it all. That's when Luca, a brash boy who's lived abroad and has approximately zero filter, steps onto the scene. Finally James has someone he can speak English with, as well as someone who can relay what he's saying to Mutsumi. Despite Luca's prickly personality, this may be the catalyst needed for everything to change.
