ABOUT

A photocopiable activity book to accompany a set of decodable Phonic Books for older readers.

The Resolvers is an older reader activity book that introduces children to a few letters and sounds at a time. This activity book accompanies The Resolvers and is aimed at older children in need of support with their reading, teaching different letter patterns through a series of stories.

Photocopiable activities in this book accompany the set of 12 books in The Resolvers series for ages 8 and above (Elementary). This activity book is designed for reluctant readers to practice CVC and CVCC spellings, adjacent consonants, consonant digraphs, and suffixes -ed and -ing.

For example:
Book 1: CVC, CVCC
Book 2: CCVC
Book 3: CCVCC
Book 4: sh, ch, tch, th
Book 5: ck, ng, qu, wh, le, -ed
Book 6: ay, ai, a, a-e
Book 7: ee, ea, y, e, ey
Book 8: o, ow, oa, o-e
Book 9: er, ir, ur
Book 10: ow, ou
Book 11: igh, y, i, i-e
Book 12: oo, u, u-e, ew

This 200-page phonics activity book features:
  • Activities to practice previously taught spellings in The Resolvers.
  • Each unit introduces new letters and sounds by sounding them out (sat, s - a - t).
  • Reading material aimed at older children who need support with their reading.
  • CVC, CVCC, CCVC, and CCVCC words, introducing adjacent consonants, consonant digraphs, and alternative vowel spellings.

What is phonics?

Phonics is a way of teaching children to read through understanding the sounds that individual letters make and blending them to make a word. Children can learn to read using this skill to decode new words. Phonic Books specializes in decodable, systematic books supporting this structured literacy instruction.

STANDARD, PRIMARY, DM AND VARIANT COVERS

Standard and Primary covers are widely available through general retailers. They often have higher print runs and can be cheaper, especially during sales.

In contrast, Direct Market (DM) and variant covers are primarily sold in comic shops. DM editions tend to have more limited availability and may be more valuable to collectors.

The main differences lie in artwork style, availability, price, and collector appeal. Ultimately, the choice between standard and variant covers depends on personal preference, budget, and individual collecting goals.

PRODUCT TYPES

Comic book enthusiasts have various formats to choose from when collecting their favorite stories.
Here's a brief overview of the main types:

Omnibus

  • Large, hardcover collections
  • Usually contain complete runs or extensive story arcs
  • Typically 800-1000+ pages
  • Higher price point, often €100-€150

Oversized Hardcover (OHC)

  • Similar dimensions to omnibus, but thinner
  • Collect shorter runs or story arcs
  • Usually 300-600 pages
  • Priced between €30-€50

Hardcover (HC)

  • Standard-sized hardcover books
  • Collect 6-12 issues typically
  • Similar dimensions to single issues, but with a hard cover

Trade Paperback (TP)

  • Softcover collections
