Together with others plucked from throughout the realm, Davvera faces a series of trials designed to reveal the next true queen—but time is scarce. The Queen of Wands alone bears the realm’s sacred fire; without her, hearts and hearths grow colder by the day, and frost is slowly overtaking the land itself. If treacherous terrain and shape-shifting immortals weren’t enough, it appears everyone is conspiring against her, from the cruel King and Queen of Coins—her own parents—to Ciro of Wands, a rakish knight with ice-blue eyes and unclear motives.

As dark forces encroach and the spark between Ciro and Davvera crackles into a wildfire, Davvera must show the one Card she’s loath to play: her secret power, which could save Tarocco—if it doesn’t destroy her first.
