ABOUT
Tim Burton grew up within an arm’s length of movie studios, Hollywood, and famous actors. By the time he was in high school, Tim knew he wanted to draw and create animation inspired by the scary movies he adored. After studying at the prestigious CalArts, Tim began work as an Disney animator, but found the work had too many rules: something Tim despised. Though his vision didn’t match with Disney’s, Tim learned the structure and discipline needed to become a director for feature films. Over the course of his career, Tim has been recognized for pioneering gothic art styles, creating an aesthetic so unique that the adjective “Burtonesque” was coined to describe his whimsical, surreal, dark worlds.
Today, he is known for his work with stop-motion animation and telling stories about outcasts and those who are considered different. Young readers will be excited to learn about the brilliant mind behind classic films like The Nightmare Before Christmas, Sleepy Hollow, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, and its 2024 sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
STANDARD, PRIMARY, DM AND VARIANT COVERS
Standard and Primary covers are widely available through general retailers. They often have higher print runs and can be cheaper, especially during sales.
In contrast, Direct Market (DM) and variant covers are primarily sold in comic shops. DM editions tend to have more limited availability and may be more valuable to collectors.
The main differences lie in artwork style, availability, price, and collector appeal. Ultimately, the choice between standard and variant covers depends on personal preference, budget, and individual collecting goals.
